The reward system at NIS is designed to encourage students to pursue personal academic excellence, desirable personal values, and to exhibit the traits of excellent citizenship within the school community. Students are given merit stickers for good deeds, exhibiting school values and academically pleasing work. These stickers are then placed into a merit booklet for the students to see their progress and how much they have been rewarded. When a student has received 5 merit stickers in their merit booklet, they are entitled to a golden ticket. Golden tickets are also issued for accumulating 'Values Certificates in Primary. Every golden ticket is put into a termly grand draw and the winning ticket wins a prize.

Merit totals are calculated by the class advisors and the student with the most merits in Grades 1-12 per class is named Student of the Month. For Grades 10-12, there is just one Student of the Month for girls and one for boys. The merits are then collated for each student and when they attain a certain number they are entitled to certain rewards.
